Residents affected by recent flooding in northern China have criticised a leading Communist Party official for valuing President Xi Jinping's flagship projects over their safety. The official, Ni Yuefeng, who is the Party boss of Hebei province, was criticised after calling on cities in the province to act as “a good role of moat for the capital” and prioritise flood control in the Xiong’an area.
