Afghanistan is frequently hit by earthquakes, especially in the Hindu Kush mountain range, which lies near the junction of the Eurasian and Indian tectonic plates. USGS said the quake was centred near Jurm in northeastern Afghanistan and had a depth of 187 kilometers (116 miles).

Pakistan's ousted prime minister Imran Khan has obtained protective bail from Lahore High Court in relation to three cases, involving two tied to terrorism, registered following last weekend's riots in Islamabad. Khan claimed a heavy police presence was trying to prevent him reaching the courthouse, and said he did not mind appearing in court in relation to any matter, as long as the government ensured peace.
