Twelve Catholic priests detained in Nicaragua have been released and sent to Rome after the government of Daniel Ortega struck a deal with the Vatican, government officials said Wednesday. A government note on Wednesday said "an agreement was reached" with the Holy See "for the movement to the Vatican of the 12 priests who, for different reasons, were prosecuted and who traveled to Rome, Italy, this afternoon."

Former Pakistani prime minister Nawaz Sharif has been granted protective bail by the Islamabad High Court until October 24 in corruption cases related to Avenfield and Al-Azizia. Additionally, his arrest warrant in the Toshakhana vehicles case has been suspended by an anti-corruption court.
