Former US vice president and climate champion Al Gore and Climate TRACE, an emissions tracker, revealed satellite images of pipeline emissions at the COP28 talks in the UAE. Gore highlighted the UAE's 7.5% increase in greenhouse gas emissions in 2022 and exposed leaks from pipelines. Gore praised a pledge by 50 oil and gas companies, including ADNOC, to reduce methane emissions and emphasized the need to phase out fossil fuels for COP28 to be a historic success.

At least one died and 11 went missing after the floods hit Indonesia's North Sumatra province. According to the country's disasters agency BNPB, the flood hit near Lake Toba which is the world's biggest volcanic lake and is a popular tourist destination for Indonesians and international visitors. The flash floods dragged large stones, leaving some houses buried to the roof, pictures from the agency showed. Around 350 people using heavy equipment were carrying out search and rescue efforts.
