Russia has launched a massive PR campaign in which the government is trying to recruit around 400,000 volunteers. Those that sign a contract with Russia's defence ministry are promised a monthly salary worth at least $2,450, a daily bonus of around $100 for taking part in offensive military operations and at least $615 if they capture or destroy enemy weapons and military equipment.

The Taliban killed the Islamic State militant responsible for the suicide bombing that left 13 US troops and 170 Afghans dead at the Kabul airport during the US withdrawal from Afghanistan. US intelligence confirmed that the Islamic State leader was killed in southern Afghanistan during battles between the Taliban and the group’s affiliate early this month. The US played no role in the killing and did not coordinate with the Taliban.
